Cardiac Rehabilitation
![]() If you have had heart problems such as stable angina (chest pain), Myocardial Infarction (MI) (heart attack), Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), Valve Repair Replaced, a Stent placement, or Heart Transplant, we can provide a medically supervised program for your rehabilitation needs. Designed to assist patients toward a safe recovery, our program draws on the talents of cardiologists, cardiac nurses, exercise physiologists, dietitians, rehabilitation therapists and vocational counselors.
Cardiac Rehabilitation usually consists of a warm-up, followed by exercise using a treadmill, airdyne bike, and/or other equipment, and concludes with a cooldown. The process includes monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, and rhythm. Our program can help you make positive changes in your physical activity and nutritional habits, as well as provide assistance in stress management and smoking cessation. • Physician referral required. • Available at Outer Banks\cf2 Cardiopulmonary Rehab program. • Cost varies with length of program - service is usually covered by insurance. People with chronic respiratory disorders have special needs. Outer Banks Cardiopulmonary Center offers a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program to meet these needs. Our staff: Medical Director, a referring Pulmonologist, clinical nurse, exercise physiologist, dietitian and a vocational counselor.
1. Achieve a higher level of strength and endurance 2. Control and reduce the symptoms and complications of your respiratory impairments. 3. Understand how to maximize your strength and endurance so you can carry out your activities of daily living. When we receive a referral from your doctor, you will be contacted to get the process started. Pulmonary Rehabilitation will consist of an orientation by the staff nurse and exercise physiologist to establish the work out program. You will also meet with the dietitian. Maintenance Program
Whether you've had heart problems in the past, or just want to lower your risk of future problems, our Maintenance Program can help. This medically supervised program of exercise is ideal for graduates of our cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program, as well as individuals who are at risk for heart disease, but do not yet qualify for rehab. Once enrolled, you will undergo a nursing and exercise assessment, and may begin exercising at our Facility.

Through our Outpatient Nutrition Counseling Program, you will meet personally with our Registered Dietitian. Specially trained to help clients better manage their disease or condition, the Dietitian can offer advice and education on a variety of topics.
